Diagnostic device HTA assessment – from secondary to primary care
Challenge
HTA assessment of a diagnostic device previously only used in hospitals
- Real world evidence showed impact on attendance rates due to convenience of setting, with a chance for higher and earlier detection rates
- Uncertainty in: how GP practices will collaborate, training requirements for the use of the device, and current pricing within the NHS
Request
Develop the economic assessment and the submission dossier
Response
- Detailed review of the components included in the current NHS tariff to ensure valid comparison across settings
- Interviews with clinical and commissioning experts to understand administrative burden of collaboration between practices and organisation needs for mobile devices
- Combining RWE and epidemiology data to determine coverage area and number of GP practices needed to achieve economies of scale
- New economic model was developed to showcase the value of increased attendance rates for scans
